Don’t bother with outdated screen recording tools like Xbox Game Bar or third-party apps. Windows now has a free tool to record your screen and webcam simultaneously. Clipchamp video editor is integrated into the latest version of Windows 11 (2o22 update), yet anyone running Windows 10 or newer can download it. In fact, you don’t even need to download the tool if you prefer use the web app.

don’t be intimidated by the fact that Clipchamp is a complete video editor with templates, effects, transitions, etc. You don’t need to use all of this. Indeed, its real best feature is somewhat hidden.

After launching the app and create an account (your Microsoft account will work)click the “record something” home page button walk in screen recording mode. You will see different presets here, and can choose to record screen only, record only the webcam streamor register both together. When you save both, the app will create different video files for each, which can then be edited to your liking. You can only record up to 30 minutes at a time, but there is no limit to the number of recordings you can make.

Once you choose the save option, you will see a floating bar at the bottom of the screen. You will also see a live preview of your webcam if you have opted for the camera recording option.

From the floating bar, you can customize the camera, microphone, and other options. Click on the red Registration button and choose what you want to record (the whole screen, a window or a browser tab). If you want to include system audio, check the box “Share system audiooption. Once everything is set up, click the “Share” button to start recording. Now do your thing.

Click on the blue Stop button to stop recording. You will see a preview of the clip you created. Click the “Save and Edit” button. The app automatically saves the raw video file to the Downloads folder. If that’s all you want, navigate to the folder and share the file.

But I think you should spend some time in the editor, because tthis is where the Clipchamp app shines. Here you can Trim video and add multiple effects. If you are a content creator, you will be able to add videos, images, music, graphic effects, transitions and more from the sidebar. Take the time to play with and explore all the tools here. Once you are satisfied, you can use the “Export” tool to export the recording to a full-HD file, 720p for social media, or a GIF (the 4K option is not there yet).

Wait a bit while Clipchamp renders your file. Once done, the file will be automatically saved in the Downloads folder. From there, you can choose to link the file, or you can upload it directly to YouTube, Google Drive, TikTok, or your social media site of choice..
