Gabby was reported missing in September 2021 when she failed to return home with Brian after a road trip across the country. The 22-year-old’s remains were discovered later that month in Wyoming.
Brian, who was named a person of interest but never a suspect in Gabby’s disappearance, had returned to Florida without his fiancée. He disappeared during the police investigation in Gabby’s case and was found dead in North Port, Florida in October 2021. In a notebook found near his body, Brian claimed ‘responsibility’ for Gabby’s death in a written confession, authorities said.
Since her death, Gabby’s parents have also filed a civil suit against Brian’s parents, Christopher Laundry and Roberta Laundry, under the pretense that they knew that Brian had murdered Gabby and that they were keeping his location a secret from investigators. Laundries have denied these allegations. The laundries filed a motion to dismiss the case, but their request was refused by a judge, according to court documents obtained by E! News June 30. the first hearing of the case took place on June 22. The laundries filed a motion on Oct. 27 asking that their depositions be limited in the case, according to court documents obtained by E! November 3 news.
Additionally, Gabby’s mother filed a separate complaint wrongful death lawsuit in May against Brian’s estate trustee, claiming $30,000 in damages. No trial date has been set.
At the time, the lawyer for the Laundries Steven Bertolino says E! News that the wrongful death lawsuit is “fully anticipated.”
“This lawsuit will likely go undefended, and the Petitos will have won nothing more than a piece of paper that tells them what everyone already knows,” Bertolino said, “that Brian was responsible for Gabby’s death, as reported by the FBI.”
