Here are some notable changes highlighted in this year’s guide:

  • The Chronic Wasting Disease Management Zone was expanded to include Ashley, Bradley, Randolph and Union counties after CWD-positive deer were detected within 10 miles of those counties.
  • Modern armed bear hunting is now permitted in bear zones 3 and 4 through limited quota hunting. See for more details.
  • Collared Bears are now legal to harvest.
  • Bear archery season in Bear Zones 1 and 2 opens seven days prior to deer archery season.
  • The Ozark National Forest Wildlife Management Area designation for public lands in the Ozark National Forest but not in a WMA has been reworded to White Rock WMA, Lee Creek WMA, or Piney Creeks WMA, depending on location.
  • A valid hunting or fishing license or a camping permit from the AGFC is required to camp in the wildlife management areas owned by the AGFC.
  • Trail cameras on WMAs must have the owner’s contact details visibly affixed.
  • Any deer, turkey or bear killed in a collision with a vehicle must be reported to the AGFC radio room (800-482-9262) before it can be taken into possession.
  • Driving under the influence is now illegal.
  • Devil’s Eyebrow Natural Area is now designated as a separate WMA.
  • The Alum Fork Natural Area is now open for hunting.

Additional changes have been made to some Wildlife Management Zones as well as changes that impact waterfowl hunters, which will be highlighted in the 2022-23 Waterfowl Hunting Guide available this fall.
